I’m Dave, an independent software developer based in Sunny Seattle, Washington.
My main focus at the moment is building experiments in “tech for good” with a couple of close friends here in Seattle. We like to build software that helps nonprofits, community organizations, local government, and other public interest organizations do their work better. We’re paying careful attention to our industry’s “AI moment” and trying to find places where modern AI can make previously uneconomic projects viable.
I’m nearly a greybeard in the tech industry. My first computer was a TI-99/4A. I’ve seen a lot of empty hype. I’ve also been around for a few major technology waves that permanently altered the landscape: the web, mobile, and now (I personally think) AI.
Yet, after all these years, the thing I remain most excited about in tech is simple text, written by humans for humans, and the software that guides those texts from mind to mind.
If I ever get a tattoo, it’ll probably consist of the letters R, S, and S.
