Decibel

I spent pretty much the entire weekend, starting Thursday night, at the first- ever Decibel Festival. Respect to Nordic Soul, who put the thing together with help from FourthCity types like Kris Moon.

Decibel’s focus was northwest electronic music, but a few international acts like Tipper from the UK came to blow us away. Tipper performed his downtempo work in 5.1 surround sound; he used a Wacom tablet to guide polyrhythmic interlocking synths around the dance floor. Closer to home, bands like Synth Club and solo acts like Jerry Abstract came up with funky, inventive sets.
