I think my addiction to Babylon 5 stemmed from my need to be told a story. At the time, television stories were in limited supply; even a slightly misguided and arrogant story was better than nothing.

These days, we’ve got shows like The Sopranos, Six Feet Under, even Buffy and 24 that take the time to introduce and explore three-dimensional characters whose lives aren’t reset at the end of each hour.

B5’s characters had dimensionality, but in comparison to Tony Soprano, John Sheridan is about as deep as a ciggy box.
