Echoes
I woke up this morning, turned on my iPhone, popped open NetNewsWire, and saw that change.gov — Obama’s transition web site — had a new post. The post contained a link to Obama’s first weekly presidential “radio address” — which of course was actually a video on YouTube. One touch brought the video up, full-screen, on my phone.
As I watched, I couldn’t help but think of one of the FDR Memorial’s finest sculptures: that of an old man sitting in his chair, listening intently to a transistor radio and to FDR’s soothing words.
History repeats itself with colored echoes and strange reflections.
