Making End's Meat

I’m working on a web site that uses the phrase “get out the vote.” A friend who had never heard the phrase got pretty miffed by it. So I stopped by Google:

• “get out the vote”: 90,500 results
• “get out and vote”: 21,300 results
• “get the vote out”: 3,180 results

Result? “Get out the vote” wins. Here’s a fun one:

• “make ends meet”: 250,000 results
• “make ends meat”: 802 results
• “make end’s meat”: 325 results
• “make end’s meet”: 89 results

(I used to fit firmly in the 325-result bucket.)
